Spiel | Formen is a multidisciplinary online journal on the topic of Play & Game Studies. It is not only concerned with concrete historical and contemporary forms of play and game and the practices associated with them. In the examination of aspects such as playfulness, transmediality, ludo-narrative, etc., philosophical implications of play in the broader sense are also addressed. In addition to approaches from game studies, ludology and narratology, Spiel|Formen explicitly draws on the broad spectrum of media and cultural studies research as well as related fields such as human computer interaction, pedagogy, visual culture studies, film studies, theatre studies, design studies, art history, and others.
Spiel|Formen is published by the GamesCoop, a research group founded in the context of the Seminar of Media Studies at the University of Siegen. GamesCoop focuses on both analogue and digital games.
Spiel|Formen publishes German and English contributions. The journal is published annually with a focus topic (CfP). In addition, sections for interviews, conference and workshop reports, position papers, reviews, finds & curiosities etc. are possible, which can also be submitted independently of the respective current CfP.
