The issue "Gender and Game Culture" engages with current developments in the field of gender & gaming, which are examined from the perspective of various academic disciplines and of practitioners in the field. Our contributors take stock of the state of gender game studies and identify research gaps and possible avenues for critical interventions. They analyse the status quo of the games industry and culture against the backdrop of gender participation and equality. The issue ties in with the academic discourse on gender and games, which has been co-constitutive for international game studies since its inception. It follows the interdisciplinary conference "Gender & Game Culture" at the University of Siegen, which took place in 2023.
